Which law applies
Familiekluis B.V. is a Dutch company. Processing falls under the General Data Protection Regulation and under Dutch and European law. The server space is supplied by a French company, likewise within the European Union.
If you have moved to the Netherlands from outside the EU, that is worth spelling out: your data does not travel back to your country of origin, and it does not sit with an American provider under American law.
Who can reach it
Your documents are stored encrypted. We use a hybrid key model: our systems can technically reach the content, because that is necessary in order to display documents, share them and release them under an emergency scenario according to your settings. Access is limited to what is necessary and is recorded in an audit trail. We would rather be honest about that than make a promise we cannot keep. The security page explains in more detail how that works.
Backups
An encrypted backup of the database and of the document storage is made daily. Those backups also sit within the European Union and can only be opened with a key that is kept separately.
Will anything ever move?
We do not move data outside the European Union. Were the storage location within Europe ever to change, we would update this page and notify existing customers.
Questions about this
If you want to know something specific about where your data is kept, please ask. We would rather answer this kind of question at too much length than too little. Email support@familiekluis.nl.
