What if Familiekluis stops?
You are putting documents here that may not be needed for another ten or twenty years. The honest question is therefore not what it costs, but whether we will still be around — and what happens if we are not. This is the answer, and it is written the same way into our terms and conditions.
The short answer
Access to your own documents never depends on our continued existence. That is not a reassurance but a design decision: we use no proprietary file format, and you can retrieve everything at any moment.

Your files stay ordinary files
What you upload, you get back in the same form. A pdf stays a pdf, a scan stays a scan, a photo stays a photo. There is no Familiekluis wrapper around them and you do not need our software to open them later — not now, and not in fifteen years.
That matters more than it sounds. Most services do not lock you in with a contract but with a format: you can leave, but your files are worth little outside their software.
If we were to stop
You would be told at least six months in advance. The service keeps working during that period. From the announcement onwards we charge nothing further for the remaining term, and amounts already paid are refunded pro rata.
If Familiekluis is acquired
If the company passes to another party, your agreement transfers with it and the same terms continue to apply. You hear about it in advance, and if you disagree you can cancel free of charge before the transfer takes effect.
If you cancel yourself
You can cancel at any moment from within your account, with no notice period and without having to give a reason. After that you keep ninety days of read access, so you can export everything at your own pace. After those ninety days your data is permanently deleted.
What we do not promise
We make encrypted backups daily, but we do not guarantee complete recovery under every conceivable circumstance. Keep anything genuinely irreplaceable somewhere else as well. Familiekluis is intended as an addition to your records, not as the only place where something exists.
We are equally clear about who can technically reach your documents. Familiekluis uses a hybrid key model: our systems can reach the content, because that is necessary in order to display documents, share them and release them under an emergency scenario. So we do not claim that nobody can reach them; we claim that access is limited, traceable and bound by rules. The security page sets out exactly how.
Where all this is recorded
Everything on this page is also in the terms and conditions, and those are binding. The relevant articles are 10 (cancellation), 23 (taking your data with you), 24 (security and backups), 26 (if Familiekluis were to stop), 30 (termination by us) and 31 (transfer of the business). The terms are in Dutch; that is the binding version.
